Ex Joo Chiat MP disqualified and fined for drink driving

The Straits Times reported that former Member of Parliament (MP) for Joo Chiat, Chan Soo Sen (pictured in green) was fined $2,000 and disqualified from driving for a year today.
Caught by mobile police after attending a charity event at 11:55pm on 13th July, a breathalyser test revealed that he had 50mg of alcohol per 100ml, over the legal limit of 35mg.
Mr. Chan said that he could not get a taxi to the event, so he decided to drive. During the event, he said the organisers had toasted him. After the event, he did not ask a car jockey to drive him home.
Now a part-time business consultant, Mr. Chan was MP of Joo Chiat ward in the East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 1997 to 2001 and the Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency (SMC) from 2001 to 2011 under the People's Action Party (PAP).
Mr. Chan said that he will be taking public transport from now on. This is his first traffic offence in court in the 30 over years of his driving experience.
