An emergency preparedness exercise - Exercise Station Guard - will be conducted at Woodlands MRT station on 30 November 2023, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The exercise will take place on both the North-South and Thomson-East Coast Lines, which intersect at the station.
During the Exercise, commuters entering Woodlands MRT station nearer to the North-South Line (NSL) platform will be directed towards the fare gates near Exit 3 of the station. Those who enter nearer to the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) platform will be directed to the fare gates near Exit 4.
Commuters may be "asked to go through metal detector checks and have their belongings scanned by X-ray machines", LTA said in a Facebook post. Station staff will be present to assist commuters on wheelchairs and those with mobility difficulties.
Apart from these temporary operational adjustments, the authorities made no mention of other disruptions to train services.
Commuters heading to Woodlands MRT station (North-South Line and Thomson-East Coast Line) on 30 November during the affected time period are advised to factor in additional time for the security screening. Those carrying bulky items, in particular, may require more time for security check clearance.
Since 2018, Exercise Station Guard has been conducted on a regular basis, jointly by LTA and public transport operators.
The exercise seeks to strengthen security in public places and is part of the national SGSecure movement to build resilience in the community against security threats, particularly from terror attacks.
It also serves to raise public awareness of the security threats that Singapore faces and familiarise commuters with how they should respond in the event of an emergency while on the public transport network.
