Ferrari to offer manual transmission for the California
26 Mar 2010|3,310 views
The six-speed manual transmission will be offered alongside the standard seven-speed dual wet clutch semi-automatic gearbox for the California, with the manual option to be made available in the next few months.
The manual gearbox will result in a slight dip in performance, but Ferrari says that up to 10% of customers have requested for a manual box. With the new transmission, the car is able to go from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0.3 seconds slower than the standard dual-clutch semi-automatic. Both transmissions allow the California to reach a top speed of 311km/h.
The manual transmission will be mounted at the rear to keep the car’s 47/53 weight ratio. It involves "double-cone synchros with multiple pawl asymmetric geometry, an oil bath lever and fork system ", according to Ferrari.
