Fiat 600 crossover gets new mild hybrid variant

Fiat has revealed the first details of the 600 Hybrid, a variant of the all-electric 600e that gets its power from a mild hybrid drivetrain.

This drivetrain comprises of a 99bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, which is paired to a 48V lithium-ion battery which feeds a 28bhp electric motor. This motor resides within a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Fiat states that the new drivetrain will offer prompt throttle response, alongside strong take-offs at low rpms. The mild hybrid technology is also said to deliver up to a 15% reduction on CO₂ emissions compared to an equivalent purely petrol-only engine.

The drivetrain will also allow the engine to complete the century sprint in close to 11 seconds - just a touch slower than the 9.0 seconds the 154bhp all-electric Fiat 600e will take to complete the same sprint.

In the cabin, the Fiat 600 Hybrid is said to be able to fit five and over 15 litres of interior storage, while its trunk will offer a total of 385 litres of capacity. The car also makes use of recycled fabric for its seat upholstery and comes with a dashboard that is made from a matte black bio-based plastic complete with white accents.
