According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the USA, the problem lies in the adhesive used between the roof panel and the body frame, which may not be strong enough to hold the roof panel in place when the car is travelling at high speeds or going over bumps.
General Motors will begin the recall of the affected vehicles in January 2010, and will replace the faulty roof panels with a newly designed one with a stronger adhesive for affected owners, at no cost at all.
