Subaru issues North America recall, SG cars unaffected

On 26 February 2026, Subaru of America, Inc. issued a voluntary recall with almost 70,000 vehicles involved. The recall affects two hybrid models, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid and the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid.
As indicated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations' Safety Recall Report, the recall is due to a risk of a potential fuel leak that can increase the risk of a fire. The issue is described in the report as such: "If the affected vehicles are left parked when the fuel tank is near full capacity and the vehicle is exposed to a significant rise in ambient temperature such that the fuel temperature and tank pressure increases, the affected vehicles may leak fuel from the filler cap."
However, Singaporean owners of said models need not worry - after direct verification with Subaru Corporation, Motor Image Group confirms that Subaru vehicles sold within its markets are not affected by this recall campaign.
According to Motor Image Group, the recall in question relates specifically to a fuel system component designed exclusively for the North American market. In order to comply with local environmental regulations, North American specification vehicles utilise a specialised sealed fuel system. Subaru Corporation has confirmed that the specific fuel system component involved in the North American recall are not used in vehicles sold by Motor Image Group. Consequently, Subaru vehicles in the region are unaffected, and thus no action is required from owners.
