Grab and BYD have announced a regional partnership to expand access to up to 50,000 BYD EVs to Grab's driver-partners across Southeast Asia, while also increasing the availability of green vehicles to Grab users.
As high upfront costs remain a key barrier for EV adoption across Southeast Asia, Grab and BYD look to boost the electrification of the transportation sector in the region by providing the former's fleet partners and driver-partners with access to BYD vehicles at the most competitive rates, with extended warranties on the EV vehicles' batteries. Drivers will also have the option of renting the EVs from Grab's fleet partners or opt for financing support through the brand's car ownership schemes. In countries like Singapore and Thailand, Grab users can also choose to toggle on the "Eco-Friendly Ride" option, which will prioritise allocating green vehicles at no additional charge.
Through this collaboration, Grab aims to deliver safer rides and a more intuitive driving experience for driver-partners with the installation of the Grab driver application in the head unit of BYD vehicles, allowing drivers to view their jobs, navigation, and chats all on a singular larger screen. The brand also aims to improve reliability by using real-time data to quickly and accurately infer external conditions such as weather and traffic, in order to guide drivers towards areas where there is likely greater demand for rides to meet spikes in bookings.
This partnership will span Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, covering a range of models including the DENZA D9, BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, and BYD M6 cars. In addition, Grab intends for DENZA to become the cornerstone of its GrabExec fleet, featuring the DENZA D9 luxury seven-seater electric MPVs that are designed with innovative features and offer unparalleled comfort and luxury. By doing this, Grab aims to set a new standard in executive transportation, anchored on convenience, style, and sustainability.
