Honda has recycled more than 170,000kg of uniforms
Honda has recycled a total of 170,000kg of uniforms, using the fibres of these uniforms to create insulation material for its vehicles in North America.
The uniforms come from its associates at its manufacturing and research and development facilities in Alabama, Indiana, North Carolina, and Ohio in the U.S.A. Uniforms that receive damage after being utilised by Honda associates at these facilities will now be sent to facilities for reprocessing after they get cleaned.
These facilities will shred the uniforms into material that meets the required fibre grade for use as vehicle insulation. And buttons and zippers are removed and the material from the uniform then gets blended into mixed fibres to been length requirements.
This material then gets shipped to an insulation supplier that consolidates and trims the fibres into material that is moulded into insulation and returned to Honda auto manufacturing plants for new vehicle production. The video embedded above demonstrates this recycling process further.
Honda states that the insulation material is now utilised in all nine Honda and four Acura models made in North America, and the firm has plans to further expand the recycling programme to its other facilities in North America.
