Hyundai has announced that it is testing the performance of the Ioniq 5 N - the brand's first all-electric high-performance model, at the Nurburgring circuit.
Particular attention, Hyundai states, has been given to the car's heat management system. The Ioniq 5 N not only sports an enlarged cooling area and an N-specific radiator, but also gets an enhanced motor oil cooler and battery chiller.
The car is also set to get a unique battery temperature management system. Called the N Battery Preconditioning, the system will allow the battery to be pre-conditioned to its most power efficient temperature, and come with two modes.
The first 'Drag' mode will put the batteries into the optimum temperature for immediate deployment of maximum power, while 'Track' mode will set the battery at the lowest possible temperature, optimised for increased number of laps.
Drivers will additionally be able to set the car's energy usage into different modes with the N Race system, with 'Sprint' prioritising full power on demand for the driver, and 'Endurance' maximising the vehicle's range on the racetrack.
The Ioniq 5 N will also get a unique regenerative braking system, capable of offering up to 0.6G of decelerative force. The car is also set to get 400mm discs for its hydraulic brakes, made of a lightweight material.
Finally, the car is also set to get a N Active Sound and N e-Shift system. The first makes use of 10-speakers (eight internal, two external) and will offer a total of three different sound themes.
'Ignition' simulates turbocharged engine and will allow the car to play various pops and bangs just like a petrol-powered car, while 'Evolution' is a N signature electronic sound inspired by the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo Concept and the RN22e. 'Supersonic', meanwhile, is said to simulate the sound of a fighter jet.
The N e-Shift system meanwhile, will give drivers the impression that their car has an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The system will control motor torque output and even deliver jolts between shifts.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car is set to be featured alongside multiple N vehicles at the festival, including the hydrogen-powered N Vision 74.
