Kia has revealed the design of its EV5 SUV at the Chengdu Motor Show in China.
Just like the EV9, the EV5 adopts a boxy form, giving it a bold and confident presence. The front of the car sports a new Kia Tiger Mask, in place of the Tiger nose grille that has historically adorned Kia's lineup.
Also featuring at the front of the Kia EV5 is the firm's Signature Star Map Lighting. Inspired by star-studded constellations, the daytime running lights here stretch down into the bumper of the car, bringing emphasis to the new front face of the car.
The use of powerful fenders and wide shoulder lines give the SUV a strong and dignified look, while the D-pillar of the car has been pushed back to aid spaciousness as well as visibility for those seated at the rear.
At the rear, the Kia EV5 gets an extended spoiler, maintaining the SUV's distinctive profile while aiding aerodynamic efficiency. A sizeable lower skid plate here also adds visual ruggedness to the EV5.
The cabin of the EV5 is said to have been designed as an alternative room for families to utilise, and Kia has designed it so it shares more in parallel to a home lounge than a traditional car cabin. The materials selected here, Kia states, have been chosen to create an interior ambience that combines a sense of relaxed wellbeing, personal inspiration, and pure family fun. A variable mood lighting system also stretches across the front section of the crash pad onto to front and rear door trims.
The system offers 10 shades chosen by Kia's lighting experts, although customers can choose from a total of 64 colour options. The system will also synchronise seamlessly with the vehicle's drive modes and will alert the driver should the vehicle exceed the speed limit.
Users here will also face a new front fascia and centre console design, the former sporting a new generation connected car Navigation and Cockpit system. Customers will also be able to opt from four different key colours and five seat patterns, so the interior can offer similar levels of elegance and taste that they might choose for their home.
The Kia EV5 is set to launch by late 2023 initially in China. More details of the car will be revealed at the Kia EV Day to be held on October 2023.
