Kia has revealed the all new, European market Sportage.
The crossover has been designed to deliver dramatic presence on European roads, with tense and crisp lines that contrast with muscular surfaces for assertive road presence.
At the front, the new Kia Sportage gets a black grille that stretches across the width of the car. It also integrates the boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights and Matrix LED headlamps.
The black roof, a first for the Sportage in Europe, helps to accentuate the car's sporty profile and highlight the architecturally dynamic C-pillar. At the rear, the car gets a swooping fastback design that flows into the slim and horizontal rear lamps.
On the inside, the Sportage gets a modern cabin with a panoramic 12.3-inch central touchscreen paired with an also 12.3-inch instrument cluster. New software within the displays will allow European customers to benefit from the latest over-the-air software and map updates, as well as remote connectivity via the Kia Connect smartphone app.
An ergonomic centre console meanwhile, provides storage, cupholders and houses the soft-touch switches, the latter sitting on a raised profile alongside the shift-by-wire transmission dial. A smartphone charging bay here will also offer high-speed 15W wireless charging.
There are a total of three petrol-powered options for the new Kia Sportage. The first, a plug-in hybrid, pairs a 178bhp 1.6-litre engine with a 90bhp electric motor and a 13.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. The total system power output of this drivetrain is 261bhp.
A full hybrid option is also offered for the Kia Sportage. It utilises a 187bhp 1.6-litre engine and a 59bhp electric motor that is fed from a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Total system output of the full hybrid Kia Sportage is 227bhp.
The third, mild-hybrid option also utilises a 1.6-litre engine, available with either a 148bhp or a 187bhp power output. This engine is said to utilise a new and optimised combustion process, as well as new cooling technologies and key friction reduction measures for increased efficiency.
