The new Kia Niro Electric Vehicle (EV) concept car will make its world debut in Las Vegas, on January 8, during the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
According to the Korean carmaker, the concept will showcase "a highly efficient battery-electric powertrain", "features a never-seen-before human-machine interface (HMI)", and has "an advanced new 'motion graphic' lighting system".
As it's based on the Hyundai Ioniq, the Kia Niro EV could sport an electric motor that's good for 120bhp and 295Nm of torque, and it's backed up by a 28kWh battery that allows it to cover a range of 199km.
On the visual front, the new Kia Niro EV features a slightly updated front end, with a revised grille that incorporates the charging port, repositioned fog lamps, and probably a tweaked bumper. Other noticeable features include a set of Y-shaped LED lights on both ends, along with the illuminated 'Niro EV' lettering incorporated into the rear bumper, which is also new.
"Virtual reality, self-driving cars, and full vehicle connectivity were all once considered technologies of the distant future. As they rapidly become a reality, Kia is exploring how to adapt these new technologies for its customers," said Woong-cheol Yang, Vice Chairman and Head of Hyundai-Kia R&D Centre.
The production version of the car is expected to debut later this year.
