What does the future hold for Electric Vehicles (EVs)? Industry experts think battery recycling may be the next big thing that could reduce the degradation of electricity-powered vehicles over time.
Hydrogen-fuelled EVs and wireless charging could also be future innovations within the EV landscape.
These were some of the exciting discussions at the fireside chat, which took place on the sidelines of a VIP networking session on 4 March 2024. It was a prelude to the Summit X 2024 C-Suite Thought Leaders Conference held on 5 March 2024 at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.
The conference brought together the likes of thought leaders, innovators, and tech founders for a meaningful exchange on the "most powerful" industry trends: Capital makers across family offices, venture, IPOs (Initial Public Offerings), private banking world and impact investment.
The fireside chat, which Sgcarmart was invited to attend, surfaced interesting insights into Singapore's progress with EVs.
For instance, there are already an estimated 6,000 charging points locally today. These service a total of nearly 17,000 EVs on the road, including passenger cars and non-passenger vehicles.
Sgcarmart understands that this charger-to-EV ratio - of approximately one charging point to three EVs - is better than that in other countries that are big on EVs currently, such as China.
Hosted by Kia Singapore in collaboration with Techstorm, the pre-event VIP networking session was preceded by an informative and inspiring presentation centred on Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBVs). The PBVs have been unveiled at Las Vegas but remain a concept for now.
The Korean brand says that its PBVs are at the core of the brand's business directives to advance the transition to EVs and expand on future mobility.
Kia also reiterated its commitment to its 'Plan S' at the event, a mid- to long-term strategy which it says encompasses mobility services, vehicle electrification, and connectivity and autonomy. Plan S comprises two main tracks: Electric vehicles and customised mobility solutions.
Kia says that the recently-launched EV9, which was displayed at the networking event and eventually made its way to Shangri-La Hotel at the summit, represents the current flagship of the plan.
