“Good design equals longevity and the better the design, the longer its life, a beautiful car - like a beautiful woman - is always beautiful,” Mr. Pininfarina said once.
“Calling his relation with Ferrari legendary is insufficient,” says Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolosaid, noting that Mr. Pininfarina was known for his “sense of elegance.”
Mr. Pininfarina oversaw the design of the 250 GTO, 250 GTE Daytona, Testarossa, F40 and the Enzo supercar among others. Mr. Pininfarina produced aerodynamically sleek roadsters like the prototype Dino Berlinetta Speciale, at a time when other designers made cars that were “land yachts.”

“Ferrari would not be Ferrari without Pininfarina, Ferrari built the machines, and basically Pininfarina clothed them,” says Michael Sheehan, founder of the online Ferraris’ collectors newsletter, Ferraris-online.com.
The iconic Pininfarina stamp - an “f” surmounted by a crown - has appeared in millions of cars styled for Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Bentley, Volvo and Peugeot. Only a handful of car models made by Ferrari were designed by other companies.
Sergio Pininfarina was 85 and his wife Giorgia and son Lorenza and daughter Paolo were close till the last moment of his death. His first son Andrea died in an accident back in 2008.
In the automotive world, Pininfarina is best known for his collaborations with Ferrari since the early 1950’s. Sergio Pininfarina took over as chairman after his father’s death in 1966 and built a global design empire.
