Lotus has unveiled the Eletre X, a new hybrid SUV that combines EV-style performance with the flexibility of petrol-powered range.
The Eletre X is the first production model to use Lotus' new X-Hybrid architecture. Unlike a conventional plug-in hybrid, its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine primarily serves as a generator to supply energy to the battery, while a dual-motor electric drivetrain is responsible for delivering power to the wheels.
In the H1000 specification, the Eletre X produces up to 938bhp and 935Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.3 seconds.
Lotus claims the Eletre X can travel up to 350km on electric power alone, while total driving range is rated at more than 1,200km. The setup is designed to deliver the smooth and immediate response associated with EVs, while reducing reliance on charging infrastructure during longer journeys.
The Eletre X is equipped with a 70kWh battery and a 900V electrical architecture. When connected to a 350kW DC charger, Lotus says the battery can be recharged from 20-80% in around nine minutes.
Visually, the Eletre X retains the design of its all-electric sibling, featuring a low roofline, slim lighting signatures and aerodynamic bodywork. Inside, the SUV comes equipped with Lotus Hyper OS, a head-up display, KEF audio system and a mix of carbon fibre, Alcantara and recycled materials.
With its combination of electric driving characteristics, super-SUV performance and long-distance usability, the Eletre X represents a new direction for Lotus as the brand expands its electrified line-up.
