Come early next year, commuters will get a new underground link that connects City Hall MRT station to Capitol Singapore - an integrated development with residences, a hotel, retail mall and a theatre.
Capital Investment Holdings, the developer of the $1.1 billion project, will also fund and construct the underground link.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will create a new entrance at the existing City Hall station to improve the flow of human traffic in the area.
Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and finish in the first quarter of next year.
LTA is also working on improvements at other MRT stations. New entrances with fare gates and ticketing machines will be added to Clementi, Commonwealth and Queenstown stations by the second half of next year. An additional pedestrian bridge will also be built to ensure smoother human flow at the stations.
In addition, LTA will add two platforms at Choa Chu Kang LRT station to ease crowding. Works are expected to conclude in 2016.
