LTA awards $1.15 billion worth of contracts for upcoming railway projects

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded $1.15 billion worth of electrical and mechanical contracts for the upcoming Thomson and Eastern Region Lines, it revealed yesterday. The contracts include the construction of Mt Pleasant, Stevens and Maxwell stations along with communications system, signalling system and platform screen doors for the two MRT Lines.
According to The Business Times, construction for all three stations will begin in the second quarter of 2014 and be complete by 2021.
A contract sum of around $441 million has been awarded to RSEA Engineering Corporation Privatised 2009 - Eng Lee Engineering Pte Ltd (Eng Lee) - Wai Fong Construction Pte Ltd (Wai Fong) joint Venture - to construct the Mt Pleasant station and its associated tunnels.
The construction of Stevens station and Maxwell station - along with their respective associated tunnels - has been awarded to Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd and Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure Pte Ltd for a contract sum of $441 million and $222 million respectively.
GE Singapore Pte Ltd/GE Transportation Systems S.p.A/GE Transportation France SNC/GE Transportation Systems Global Signaling LLC Consortium (GE) have been awarded around $159 million to provide signalling system and platform screen doors. The latter contract includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the Signalling System and Platform Screen Doors for the entire Thomson and Eastern Region railway Lines.
Furthermore, an additional $124 million contract has been awarded to Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (STE) for the provision of the communications system.
