The Land Transport Authority (LTA) aims to ease car buyer’s decisions on a car models with better fuel efficiencies and low carbon emissions. From 1st July, LTA will take over the supervision of the Fuel Economy Labelling Scheme (FELS) from the National Environment Agency (NEA) and will launch three initiatives as it prepares for the Carbon Emission-based Vehicle (CEVS) scheme.
A new Fuel Economy Label will highlight a car model’s carbon emissions per km (g/km), fuel consumption (l/100km) and carbon emission performance. The label will also indicate the model’s banding and rebates/surcharge amounts. The new label will be fixed mandatorily on cars and light goods vehicles that have been approved for sale from the 1st July 2012.A brochure titled 'Taking you further with Lower Fuel Usage' will highlight the advantages of choosing better efficient cars, and will educate on the new fuel economy label, and the CEV scheme. The brochure will be available at all car showrooms and the ONE.MOTORING website from 1st July as well.
An online database and fuel cost calculator will also be available at ONE.MOTORING where car buyers can compare the estimated annual fuel costs, fuel efficiencies and carbon emissions of up to two different models. The database will be progressively expanded as more cars are approved by LTA.
The public and motor dealers can call LTA (1800-2255-582) for enquiries on FELS from the 1st of July.
