LTA to install CCTV cameras at 10 more locations to discourage illegal parking

From Monday the 22nd September, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will activate an additional 10 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to discourage motorists from illegal parking. Including the upcoming implementation, a total of 30 public roads will now have CCTV cameras put in place to discourage motorists from parking illegally.
The 30 locations are selected based on the following considerations:
- A high incidence of illegal parking, typically daily and throughout the day.
- Illegal parking impedes the smooth flow of public buses, particularly where the roads serve a high number of public bus services.
- Illegal parking raises safety concerns for pedestrians and road users and/or lead to chronic traffic congestions.
- High concentration of pedestrian activities such as in the CBD, and/or proximity to popular malls, amenities and eateries.
All 30 locations will be monitored by CCTVs for parking offences on a 24 Hour basis. Motorists can identify these zones, with the demarcated parking restriction lines as well as signs that have been put up to highlight their presence. In addition, available lamp posts or sign posts within the zones are painted with a vertical strip in a bright orange colour.
Moreover, LTA revealed they have been closely monitoring the 20 locations where it has installed CCTV cameras and reported that since the implementation, the transport authority has seen varying improvements in traffic conditions along these roads as they are no longer obstructed by illegally parked vehicles.
