LTA to deter illegal parking by installing CCTVs at 10 more locations

From Tuesday, the 15th July 2014, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will begin operations of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at 10 locations, around the island, to enforce against illegal parking.
The new implementation adds on to the current 10 locations, and some of the locations for the second phase of enforcements include Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, Boon Lay Way, Woodlands Road, Collyer Quay and, among others, Jalan Sultan. Meanwhile, the transport authority has revealed that the number of spots will be further increased to 30 by October 2014.
The 30 locations are selected based on the following considerations:
- A high incidence of illegal parking, typically daily and throughout the day.
- Illegal parking impedes the smooth flow of public buses, particularly where the roads serve a high number of public bus services.
- Illegal parking raises safety concerns for pedestrians and road users and/or lead to chronic traffic congestions.
- High concentration of pedestrian activities such as in the CBD, and/or proximity to popular malls, amenities and eateries.
The locations will be monitored by CCTVs for parking offences on a 24-hour basis. Motorists can identify these locations by the clearly demarcated parking restriction lines along with signs to highlight their presence in the area. In addition, available lamp posts or sign posts within the CCTV monitoring zone will also be painted with a vertical strip in a bright orange colour.
The full list of 30 locations can be found in our gallery. LTA also announced it will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the CCTVs after implementation and review the need for expansion to other areas where necessary.
