The Land Transport Authority has reviewed SMRT's request for a reduction in the fine of S$387,176 for its breach of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Operating Performance Standards (OPS) on 21 January 2008. Although SMRT tried to reduce the impact of the more than 7-hour disruption to rain services between the Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris MRT stations, the factors cited by SMRT in its request for reduction of the fine had already been considered before LTA determined the penalty.
The LTA decided not to reduce the penalty, and is giving SMRT two weeks to pay the fine of S$387,176.
