LTA will expand sheltered walkways from 46km to 200km by 2018
30 Aug 2013|2,936 views
The call for tender is part of the Governments wider plans to construct 200km of sheltered walkways - from the current 46km - which would link every MRT station to homes, shops, offices and food centres within a 400 metre radius. The initiative was announced by Transport, Minister Lui Tuck Yew, early this year and will also include facilities within 200 metre of LRT stops, bus interchanges and major bus stops.
According to The Straits Times, the tenders will cover MRT stations in the North-Eastern and North-Western parts of Singapore such as Ang Mo Kio, Khatib and Clementi. Two more tenders, which will be called in the final quarter of 2013, will cover the remaining MRT and LRT stations.
LTA has been conduction site surveys since January as preparatory work to expand the walkway network. Construction of the walkways will occur in phases over a period of five years, with a scheduled completion in 2018.
