Felipe Massa could be considered the luckiest driver in the grid at the moment as Ferrari has decided to retain him for another season. The decision comes after a meeting with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo at Maranello.
2013 will be Massa's eight consecutive season with the Prancing Horse team. Massa's future at Ferrari was cloudy at the start of the year with disappointing performance ever since his return to the sport after his accident. However the contract extension comes at a time where Massa finished second Japan and seemed to outpace team mate and title contender Fernando Alonso in Korea.
Massa has won 11 races with Ferrari, with his last win at the Brazilian Grand Prix back in 2008 when he lost the championship title to Hamilton by just a point. A serious accident in 2009 at the Hungarian Grand Prix saw him sitting out for the rest of the season and returned in 2010.
"Ferrari is my sports family and I have always raced in Formula One driving engines built at Maranello: I can't see myself behind the wheel of a car driven by any other units! First I want to thank the President Montezemolo and Stefano Domenicali, who gave me confidence and I have always maintained belief, even in the most difficult moments. Both the team and the fans can be assured that I will do all that is in my power to help the Scuderia to achieve the goals that arise every year," says a very delighted Massa.
Team principle, Stefano Domenicali is confident Massa will reimburse the trust Ferrari has shown him.
