Mazda6 Skyactiv-D race car unleashed in Detroit before race debut

The Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racecar has been reveiled in Detroit at North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), ahead of its race debut on 26th Jan 2013 at the 2013 Rolex 24.

The race engine will be based on the 2.2-litre Skyactiv-D offered in European versions of the Mazda6. It will be based on a stock block, but will get new valves, pistons, connecting rods and lubrication components for race duty.

Three cars will be taking part in the GRAND-AM GX class of the upcoming 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona, with each of the teams consisting of five drivers. This particular vehicle showcased at NAIAS wears the number 70 and is sponsored by SpeedSource, a motorsport sponsor for Mazda.

Let's hope that the Mazda Skyactiv-D will have a successful race debut.
