McLaren 750S launched in Singapore

McLaren Singapore has unveiled the 750S, which is currently the brand's most powerful series production model. The event, which took place in Mediapolis, marks the model's Southeast Asian launch.
The 750S is based on the 720S, but it has received numerous and extensive upgrades to both its exterior and interior to enhance its performance and make it faster than its predecessor.
Though the 750S looks very similar to the 720S, there are differences between the two models. In front, the 750S has a lower nose section and a longer front splitter, plus narrower air intakes enclosing the headlamps.
The head light surrounds can now be customised. Clients can opt for them to be body-coloured, in carbon fibre, or tinted carbon fibre in the hue of their choosing from McLaren Special Operations (MSO). At the rear, the exhaust system now features a single centre-exit layout and is lighter than the 720S' system.
The 750S' name hints at its power increase. Higher turbo pressures have boosted the M840T 4.0-litre V8's output from 710bhp (720PS) to 740bhp (750PS), while torque now stands at 800Nm instead of 770Nm.
Paired to a seven-speed sequential shift transmission with a shorter final drive ratio, the 750S rockets from a standstill to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, or 0.1 of a second faster than the 720S. That's a staggering improvement at this level, especially since the car remains rear-wheel drive.
The 750S' zero to 200km/h time is even more eye-watering. It's now able to manage this in 7.2 seconds, whereas the 720S takes 7.8 seconds.
Powertrain aside, the 750S' lighter components contribute to its greater performance. These include thinner windscreen glass that's 1.6kg lighter than before, carbon fibre bucket seats weighing 17.5kg less than the standard seats in the 720S, and a new instrument panel that's 1.8kg lighter than the previous unit.
In addition, McLaren says that the new 10-spoke forged wheels, which save 13.8kg, are the lightest ever fitted to a standard series production model.
Lightweight forged wheels and Pirelli P Zero tyres tailored to the 750S also help enhance performance
Helping the 750S tame the higher performance is the new Proactive Chassis Control III suspension system. It features passive coil springs with semi-active dampers, along with a hydraulic roll circuit in place of mechanical anti-roll bars.
The 750S's front track is also 6mm wider than before. Surprisingly, however, the front spring rates are now 3% softer than before, whereas the rear springs have been made 4% stiffer. According to McLaren, this gives the 750S more pliancy and comfort, while improving precision and control.
Inside, the 750S' cockpit has been given a thorough upgrade. It's more advanced than the 720S' space, boasting high-resolution displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, which has Apple CarPlay as standard. Even the steering column is electrically adjustable.
Another convenient new addition is the McLaren Control Launcher or MCL. The driver can save his or her preferred configurations for the powertrain, suspension, aerodynamics and suspension, and recall them just by pressing the MCL button.
Prices for the McLaren 750S Coupe and 750S Spider start from $1,398,000 and $1,548,000 respectively, before options and COE. At press time, a spokesperson from McLaren Singapore said that there were 15 'expressions of interest'.
