McLaren reveals Stealth Mode livery ahead of Singapore GP

Just days before its two Formula One drivers are set to hit the tarmac in the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix - one of them, on his inaugural outing here - McLaren has revealed a fresh, limited-edition black and orange livery for its MCL60 car.
Fittingly dubbed 'Stealth Mode', the livery was unveiled to members of the media on 13 September 2023 at Fullerton Bay Hotel's Lantern rooftop bar, and will be used on McLaren's MCL60 F1 cars both here this weekend, and at Japan's Suzuka Circuit from 22 to 24 September.
The team's two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, also graced the event alongside OKX Chief Marketing Officer, Haider Rafique, to pull the covers off the car.
This Stealth Mode, which the MCL60 cars will soon slip into, marks yet another livery to be co-designed by McLaren and OKX, a leading cryptocurrency exchange relying on Web3 technology. OKX has been a primary partner of the McLaren Formula One team since 2022.
In September last year, the partners also jointly presented the 'Future Mode' livery on the previous generation MCL36 car, which relied instead on what were described as 'neon pink embellishments and dynamic, cyberpunk-inspired engine illustrations' to augment McLaren's Fluro Papaya colourway.
The 'Stealth Mode' livery is a far cry from last year's 'Future Mode', with its dark and brooding look
Highlighting the unique visual experience of a night race, Rafique shared that the team had "really tried to lean into the dark colours" with the livery and "not over design it". Instead, the Stealth Mode livery is dominated by three signature colours: OKX's black and white, and McLaren's papaya. "This year we dialled it down a little bit, and we tried to be simple and really embrace less is more," he continued.
The drivers, who are also going to be driving the MCL60 for the first time in this livery, also concurred, with Norris adding, "I think sometimes having something a little bit more subtle and not overcrowded is actually where things pop out even more and stand out. So I think on track is where it's going to look even cooler."
As mentioned earlier, the 2023 Singapore GP is set to be an interesting one for McLaren racing - not simply because it's "one of the toughest, not just on the body, but also mentally" (Norris' words; he lost 3kg over the race duration alone last year). Instead, it will also mark the first time that 22-year old Oscar Piastri - still relatively new to the team - is racing in Singapore.
"I've heard for years now how difficult this race is," the Australian driver admitted. Describing the track as a "perfect mix of chaos" with its tight layout and Singapore's general humidity, he also voiced some hope that there would be a bit more overtaking along the new straight with the circuit's slight change this year.
Ending off on a determined note, Piastri continued, "I've tried to prepare as best as I can, and I'm looking forward to getting out there on Friday."
If you're keen on seeing the Stealth Mode livery up close, the show car you see in these pictures is set to feature in a McLaren-themed, OKX-hosted fan zone on our shores soon.
Located at Chjimes, the OKX Race Club will also boast racing simulators, giveaways, and as-yet unnamed "surprise guests" over the weekend. The fan zone officially opens on 14 September at 2:00pm (Singapore time) and will run all the way till 17 September. Free tickets are available here.
