Mercedes-Benz previews BlueZero E-Cell Plus electric car concept
04 Sep 2009|3,053 views
The BlueZero E-Cell Plus concept features an 18kWh lithium-ion battery, powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp. Mercedes says that this allows the car to travel 100km on electric power alone, and an additional 500km on the petrol engine.
The battery is connected to an electric motor that produces 100kW and 320Nm of torque, enabling the BlueZero E-Cell Plus to go from 0-100km/h in less than 11 seconds, and reach its electronically-limited top speed of 150km/h.
The highlight of the BlueZero E-Cell Plus however, is its recharging technology. Using a special 20kW rapid charger, the E-Cell Plus can be charged for 50km in just half an hour, and be fully charged in an hour. The car can also be charged using a standard 3.3kW household outlet, but that increases the charging time to 6 hours.
Mercedes has previously showcased other E-Cell concepts, the BlueZero E-Cell which runs solely on electric power, and has a range of 200km, and the BlueZero F-Cell, which is powered by hydrogen fuel-cells and can go up to 400km on electricity, but the E-Cell Plus is set to be the closest to making production.
