24 Jun 2009|4,645 views
Mercedes has facelifted its S63 and S65 performance luxury saloons, with minor cosmetic tweaks among the changes.
A new arrow-shaped grille is complemented by AMG-spec LED daytime running lights mounted above the air intakes on the new front spoiler.
At the rear, a new lower bumper set incorporates a body-colour diffuser. Re-designed LED taillights and chrome exhausts complete the styling packages.
The S63 are fitted with 19-inch multispoke glossy Titanium Grey alloys, while the S65 will be equipped with 20-inchers.
Equipment levels are up to the usual high Mercedes Benz standards, with Mercedes' Active Body Control system, which stabilises the car during high crosswinds, mated to the AMG sports suspension. The system adjusts "the wheel load distribution within milliseconds" and works in tandem with the Electronic Stability Programme. All new Torque Vectoring Brakes improve cornering by adjusting the caliper pressure on the inner rear wheel, and AMG's Adaptive Brakes and Active Steering are also fitted.
Inside, passengers will be treated with the usual S-Class luxuries, with leather AMG Sports Seats with multiple functions, including a massage system. AMG additions include new aluminium shift paddles mated to the S65's AMGSPEEDSHIFT 7G-Tronic transmission, or the 5-speed version on the S63. Carbon fibre AMG trim is also available as an option.
In terms of performance, they remain unchanged, with the S63 utilising a 6.3 litre V8 producing 525bhp and 630Nm of torque. The more powerful S65 will be equipped with a 6.0 litre twin turbo V12 producing 612bhp and an immense 1000Nm of torque, propelling the car to 100km/h from rest in just 4.4 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the S63. Both cars are electronically limited to 250km/h.
Both cars are due to go on sale at the end of the month in Germany.
