Mercedes-Benz has ushered in a new era with the unveiling of its new electric VLE, the first vehicle based on the brand's newly developed modular, flexible, and scalable van architecture, and said to combine the driving characteristics of a sedan with the versatility of an MPV.
And thanks to its 800V technology and 115kWh battery, the new VLE can recharge up to 355km of range in 15 minutes with 300kW of DC fast charging.
Two pronounced power domes on the new VLE's hood accentuate its powerful appearance. The front is characterised by the reinterpreted, brand-defining grille. Depending on the trim level, it features an illuminated frame, a seamless light strip connecting the headlights, star-shaped daytime running lights with Digital Light, and either an upright star on the hood or an integrated central star.
A highlight at the rear are the arc-shaped taillights integrated into the aerodynamic spoiler lip. This light strip frames the rear like an inverted "U". It integrates all lighting functions and creates a distinctive light signature that immediately catches the eye.
The new VLE accommodates up to eight people in its cabin, with each mechanical and electrical seat featuring four integrated casters, allowing them to be moved back and forth, locked in any position, and even removed. This can be done via the brand's app or vehicle's central display.
These seats can also be configured in a variety of ways, with one highlight being the electric Grand Comfort seat, which comes with an additional cushion, wireless charging, lumbar support, massage function, and calf support.
Middle seat passengers will have even more reason to celebrate, as hidden within the headliner above the front seats is a retractable, 31.3-inch panoramic screen with 8K resolution, split-screen function, and an eight-megapixel camera.
As for both the driver and front passenger, they will benefit from the MBUX Superscreen, which is made up of a 10.25-inch instrument display, a 14-inch central display, and a 14-inch display for the latter. While the driver benefits from clear, focussed information, the front passenger can enjoy personalised entertainment like video streaming, gaming, and apps.
The VLE has an electric sliding door on each side, optionally with hands-free access. The sliding doors feature fully retractable windows for ample fresh air. Equally practical is the separately opening rear window, which makes loading and unloading particularly convenient. And depending on the chosen centre console, there is unobstructed access from the cockpit to the rear seats.
It also features an impressively large Sky View panoramic roof. This one-piece fixed glass roof extends seamlessly from the B-pillar to the rear, conveying an unparalleled sense of spaciousness and freedom, as well as security and tranquillity. Like all rear windows, including the separately opening rear window, it is equipped with an electric sunshade.
