Mercedes-Benz has lifted the veil off its new GLE and GLE Coupe.
With a total of around 3,000 new or revised components, the GLE sports distinct lighting details at its front, with two horizontally arranged star motifs in the headlamps creating a new visual signature, which is complemented by its illuminated central star and contour lighting of its larger grille.
At the centre of its bonnet, the iconic star is set within an optionally illuminated chrome frame surrounded by the Mercedes-Benz pattern, which also features on the side air-intake grilles. Additional design highlights include the new generation exterior mirrors with a high-gloss black mirror base and a matching connection to the body.
At the rear, both light clusters feature a pair of three-dimensional star emblems framed in chrome for increased recognition, while a design trim in the tailgate visually combines the lights into a single element. As for the GLE Coupe, its rear taillights feature two stylised, three-dimensional star emblems that emphasise its sporty character.

Dark Petrol uni and Manufaktur patagonia red metallic are eye-catching new additions to the GLE's paint portfolio. Complementing these new colours are three new 20-inch alloy wheel designs. In the GLE Coupe, this translates to new, 20-inch AMG design wheels with double spokes.
The GLE's interior also gets similar attention, with new colours, ambient styles, trim elements, proven steering wheel controls, and additional comfort features. In addition, the outer air vents for the first row of seats are now oval instead of square and are integrated into the ambient lighting. The MBUX Superscreen is also transformed into a "living canvas", with a range of atmospheric ambient styles enhancing its visual impact.
As for the GLE Coupe, the upper part of its instrument panel is lathered with Artico man-made leather as standard. If that wasn't enough, both models now have a new electric cabin air filter, which effectively cleans the outside air of harmful and unpleasant components via a multi-stage concept. And when the air quality and fine dust sensor readings reach a certain level, the climate control system automatically switches between fresh air and recirculation mode.
Both the GLE and GLE Coupe models also come as standard with a panoramic sliding sunroof, said to be among the largest of its kind in a production SUV.
And just like the new GLS, it is also equipped with the brand's new range of engines. The top-of-the-range V8 model, the GLE 580 4MATIC, sees its power output increased to 530bhp and 750Nm of torque. In the GLE 450 4MATIC, the six-cylinder petrol engine gets an increase of torque (up to 560Nm now). As for the GLE 450e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid, it shares the same six-cylinder engine but gets a power creep of 74bhp, as well as 106km of pure electric range (WLTP).
In addition, the two six-cylinder diesel models - the GLE 350d 4MATIC and the GLE 450d 4MATIC - are equipped with an electric heating catalyst, which helps regulate the temperature of the exhaust system. Its also a little lighter now, due to its engine block and cylinder head made with aluminium.
This latest unveiling is just one of many from a renewed product offensive from Mercedes-Benz, which has also seen the likes of the updated S-Class, and new generations of the GLS, GLB, and GLC making their debuts.
