MINI to unveil the Beachcomber 4x4 concept at the Detroit Motor Show

MINI says that the Beachcomber is all about outdoor fun, and cites the MINI Moke of the 1960s as among its influences. The Beachcomber is a fun young vehicle which is touted to be the next addition to the MINI range, after the normal hatch, Convertible and Clubman.

The Beachcomber concept does without a roof or doors, to emphasise the open-top sensation. MINI says that this allows the occupants to get as close to the elements as possible. A lightweight special fibre roof can be used to cover the top should rain approach, while doors can also be fitted on request.

The Beachcomber 4x4 is capable of carrying equipment such as surfboards and mountain bikes, and features run-flat tyres wrapped around lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels. Measuring around 4 metres long, the Beachcomber has styling elements such as a chrome frame, a large air intake, fog lights and a power dome on the bonnet.

Inside, the Beachcomber features items such as storage boxes, shelves, a bottle holder, a compact meal box and a case for cycling and swimming glasses. A MINI Centre Rail allows for the connection of music, laptop or external GPS tracker devices easily through their own power supplies.
