On top of an extended driving range of 199km, Nissan's new Leaf EV features a slew of improvements, such as greater recycling ability and better charging performance. Aerodynamic efficiency is also improved thanks to subtle styling changes made to the nose of the car. Several changes were suggested from prevailing Leaf owners through its active forum. The 2013 Nissan Leaf will be produced in two other locations - North America and Europe - besides Japan.

The powertrain features the same motor and batteries but has been re-engineered to fully integrate the charger assembly, inverter and the motor together. The integrated powertrain is mounted underneath the cabin area to lower the centre of gravity for optimum handling.
The charging port has been moved from the rear to under the bonnet, which in turn increases the luggage area by as much as 40 litres to an overall capacity of 370 litres. Rear legroom is also increased thanks to reshaped seat cushions. The seats are now manufactured from a new bio-fabric that is fully derived from sugar cane.
Customers are spoilt for choices with three new trim levels - Visia, Acenta and Tekna. The basic Visia version has 16-inch steel wheels with full covers, black door mirror caps and halogen headlights. The Acenta version has 16-inch alloys, suede fabric seat trims, body coloured mirror caps and rear privacy glass.
The high range Tekna model has standard leather seats and wears 17-inch alloys. They also feature LED headlights, and other novelties in the cabin.

The arrival of the Leaf has changed the road infrastructure of European roads, with expanded charging resources. At last year's Geneva Show, there were 150 Nissan Leaf dealers across Europe and 195 Quick Chargers. Currently in a span of just 12 months, there are 1,400 dealers and more than 600 Quick Chargers.
