Ong Ye Kung announced as new Transport Minister

Mr. Ong Ye Kung, former Minister of Education in charge of Higher Education and Skills, will now take over the office of Minister for Transportation.
The office was formerly held by Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, who only recently announced his retirement on 26 July 2020, after 19 years in politics.
Mr. Ong Ye Kung, Member of Parliment for Sembawang GRC, has a diverse portfolio ranging from serving as the Deputy Secretary General of the National Trades Union Congress, as well as the Director of Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The new Minister was also formerly a Board member of the SMRT Corporation, and was appointed to head the internal investigation into the major train disruptions that occured between 15 and 17 December 2011.
