Porsche has moved one step closer to producing an all-electric racer.
The firm has now shoehorned the entire electric motor and battery technology from the Mission R into the platform of a 718 Cayman to create this: The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance thus gets an electric drivetrain that generates a peak maximum of 1,073bhp. Porsche additionally states that the vehicle the vehicle can push out a steady 603bhp for 30 minutes, which will allow it to last the duration of a Carrera Cup race.
In terms of lap times and top speed, the 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance is said to be on par with the performance of the current 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup.
The car also gets direct oil cooling of the e-motors and battery pack designed to directly counteract thermally induced derating. This, coupled with the drivetrain's 900V technology, means the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance can be charged at maximum speed from 5% to 80% state of charge in just 15 minutes.
The car still remains under wraps from now, although Porsche does state that it is 14cm wider than a 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
The car sports close to 6,000 parts that have been designed from scratch, and comes with a body made of natural fibre composite materials, which reduces its carbon footprint compared to other synthetic materials.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance also sports flared fenders compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, allowing it to utilise wider 18-inch racing tyres from Michelin. Renewable materials are said to make up a particularly high proportion of the tyres.
