Porsche might introduce turbo-charging for smaller powertrains

An anonymous Porsche engineer has reported to a Dutch auto site that turbo charging will be applied to smaller engines in the Porsche range. However the turbocharged models might not be christened with the iconic cursive-italic turbo badging.
For Porsche, the turbo tag is currently reserved for top performance models like the 911, Panamera or Cayenne. The last time Porsche used a four-cylinder turbo was back in 1995 for the 968.
When questions were raised over a 911 Hybrid, the Porsche engineer replied there aren’t any plans at the moment due to the extra weight that the technology brings. However the possibility isn’t rejected, as the required technology is in-house, and the platform is suitable for the powertrain.
In a bid to enhance fuel efficiencies and lowering CO2 emissions, turbocharging has become an upcoming trend among auto makers. A good example is BMW, whom was against turbo charging for many years. They currently have up to triple turbocharged systems currently found in their range.
