The Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar is getting tuned up to set a lap time of less than 7min and 22s at the 20.8 km long Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit. The 918 Spyder is a hybrid which combines a high-performance engine with electric motors for a massive 770bhp of power output.
The car's fuel efficiency is around 3L/100km with CO2 emissions equivalent to 70g/km. The monocoque comprises of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), for a light body with significant rigidness and precision. While the technology and engineering makes the Porsche 918 Spyder a futuristic supercar, the styling of the prototypes does not fall far from Porsche’s legacy models.
As Porsche is fine tuning its 918 Spyder prototype it has released new snapshots where the test vehicle is covered in the iconic Martini Racing vinyl’s of many historic Porsche race cars, particularly from the 1970s. Martini was an official partner of the Porsche factory team between 1973 and 1978. The successful collaboration saw many victories including the Sports Car World Championship in 1976 and at 24 hours of Le Mans in 1976 and 1977.
Now, Porsche has covered its protorype with a similar Martini Racing livery, designed exclusively for the 918 Spyder. This was made possible thanks to a partnership agreement between Porsche, and Martini whom are represented by Bacardi & Company Limited of Switzerland.
