In commemoration of Porsche's most significant success during the 1954 Carrera Panamericana Mexico, Porsche Latin America (PLA) has unveiled the 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special, a one-of-a-kind take on Porsche's hallowed roadster.
Drawing inspiration from the mid-engine 550 Spyder with its lightweight construction, and using the 718 Spyder RS as a foundation, PLA collaborated with Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur division to create a trilogy of cars, with the 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special being the third and last one.
The 550 Spyder was groundbreaking for its time, featuring the first race use of its 1,500cc four-camshaft engine. Combined with its lightweight aluminium bodywork, the engine allowed the car to reach speeds of over 200km/h, outperforming heavier vehicles with bigger engines.
The 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special, in a nod to the 550 Spyder, has its aerodynamic elements adorned with centenaire silver, with its Magnesium wheels complemented by high-gloss black ceramic composite brake callipers.
Its interior is mainly black, with leather adorning the door panels, ventilation system, grilles, and instrument panel, as well as the bucket seats. The car also sports a fully integrated watch mount under the centre armrest, designed by TAG Heuer for the 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special.
To celebrate Porsche's participation in the 37th edition of the Carrera Panamericana Mexico, the brand unveiled the car at a gala event in Mexico City. Porsche also announced that this exclusive model will be auctioned for charity in 2025, with the proceeds going to supporting non-profit organisations.
