Porsche to put electric Macan drivetrain into a sports boat

Those looking for all-electric cruises on the water will soon have an alternative to this Candela C-8 to consider.

It's called the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, and gets its hull practically unchanged from the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air daycruiser. So, it measures a total of 8,670mm long and 4,490mm wide.

But what has changed is what's powering the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, and this ought to intrigue even the more terrestrial among us. Porsche states that the electric sports boat will come with the drive technology of the future Porsche Macan electric (read our review of the current Porsche Macan here). On the boat, this takes the form of a lithium-ion high voltage battery with a capacity of 100kWh, and a permanently excited synchronous electric motor. An 800V architecture is also said to be used here, allowing the boat to be charged at direct current fast charging stations, while charging via alternating current sources will still be possible.

The craft will be able to carry nine passengers and comes with a swimming platform at the rear that leads to a lounge area with two comfortable sun pads. Also on board are two bimini tops for shade, an electric anchor winch with a stainless steel anchor, a premium sound system, and a refrigerator. Porsche states that it will be responsible for the design of the helmstand of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, including its steering wheel and main console. It additionally played a significant role in the design of the seats and upholstery of the craft. First deliveries of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air are scheduled to start in 2024 with the first 25 units comprising of first edition examples.
