Porsche Ventures, the venture capital division of the German sportscar manufacturer, has taken a minority stake in Griiip.
The start-up has developed a cloud-based data platform which enables the transmission of motorsport data directly from a racing car, then analyses and visualises this data in the cloud. In addition to unprecedented levels of data analysis, Griiip hopes to introduce a new dimension of user engagement, bringing motorsport information normally used by drivers and teams directly to fans.
The Israeli company is on a mission to make motorsport more accessible by providing innovative ways for the racing community to engage with fans. The company's personalised digital media platform, the Racing Media Platform, aims to attract younger audiences that seek a more immersive and personalised viewing experience.
The platform offers direct access to raw data from the vehicle electronic units through a hardware component known as the 'Red Box'. This data is extracted during live races and used to generate real time analysis.
Datasets on offer include driver stress levels, battery status of the vehicle, predicted lap times and tyre data. The information is collected and visualised in charts, allowing viewers to compare driver performance.
