Rolls-Royce has presented a new one-of-one bespoke Phantom commission. This Phantom 'Inspired by Cinque Terre', is said to have been inspired by the viticultural heritage of the Italian Riviera.
This Cinque Terre - Italian for 'Five Lands' - lies on the rugged coast of Liguria in northern Italy. Perched on the cliffside, the centuries-old fishing villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are internationally famous for their steeply terraced vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean - a true marvel in the world of winemaking.
The car thus gets a deep and rich Ligurian blue exterior, accentuated by a hand-applied double coachline in Navy Blue and Jasmine, completed with a grape motif.
In the cabin, the car combines Grace White with Navy Blue leather, complete with Jasmine accents. Grape-branch embroidery also graces the rear doors, a touch that is said to comprise 9,215 stitches each. These pieces are said to employ a stain stitch, with the threads carefully aligned according to the angle at which light strikes the surface to give each individual grape a lifelike tone and lustrous quality. The leaf of each embroidery, meanwhile, utilises a tatami stitch, which provides a textural contrast and enhances the embroidery's tactile qualities.
This grape motif is also captured in an intricate inlay on both picnic tables made with stainless steel and gold plating. These tables get a Milori blue paint that sports a subtle sparkle, before the inlays are applied by hand. The table is then sealed with a clear lacquer which is then hand polished to produce a smooth, seamless finish.
And of course, a bespoke Starlight Headliner also takes inspiration from those aforementioned Italian towns. Here, a map of Italy features, with five glowing stars marking out the position of the Cinque Terre villages.
Finally, the car gets a special Gallery within its fascia which houses a special artwork - an imagined amalgamation of elements from all five cliffside villages. This piece was first sketched digitally, then airbrushed by hand using water-based acrylic paint to achieve an incredibly fine level of detail, before being finished with multiple coats of clear lacquer. Its focal features are said to have been carefully positioned within the Gallery to ensure that their exquisite details can be admired easily by all the motor car's occupants.
