Scout has revealed its first two models under Volkswagen ownership with the Traveler SUV and Terra truck. Both production-intent concept vehicles will be manufactured in the U.S.A.
The new vehicles both sport retro looks, taking inspiration from the design of the original Scout models produced from 1961 to 1980, and will be built on an all-new body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle.
In addition, the platform will be constructed to offer up to 35-inch tires, over one foot of ground clearance, nearly three feet of water fording capability, a front sway bar disconnect, front and rear mechanical lockers, competitive approach and departure angles, and robust suspension options.
Both vehicles will be configurable with 100% battery electric or gasoline-fuelled range-extended energy systems, with fully electric variants offering up to 563km of range and range-extended variants projected to offer more than 805km of range through a gas-powered generator.
Equipped with a four-wheel-drive system with an electric drive unit on each axle, and thanks to nearly 1356Nm of torque, fully electric Scout vehicles can go from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds. The vehicles will be built on an 800V architecture with up to 350kW charging capability and bi-directional charging.
Scout's vehicles will also use modern zonal software architecture, enabling remote updates, diagnostics, and an increased lifespan.
Both will also come with a front trunk as well as 120V and USB-C power outlets. The Terra truck will feature a 5.5-foot pickup bed with two 120V power outlets and one 240V power outlet. In addition, the Traveler SUV has a split tailgate offering easy access and protection from the elements.
