The first generation Cupra were released in 1996, and have since become an icon for the SEAT brand. The Cupra concept is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI engine which is both super and turbocharged, with 180hp and 250Nm torque. The short shifting seven-speed DSG can also be operated through shifter paddles behind the steering wheel.
"Immediate and linear acceleration, with agile handling, good traction and responsive brakes are the key ingredients for what the CUPRA name represents," says Dr. Matthias Rabe, Vice-president for Research and Development at SEAT.
New LED daytime running lights outline the headlamps to deliver a unique light signature. The bi-xenon headlamps provide perfect illumination, while cornering lights are integrated into the large fog lamps. The sports coupe profile has sharp lines with muscular rear arches and 17-inch wheels. The black exterior mirrors contrast the bright Crono yellow finish.
The interior is minimal and well structured. The new sports steering wheel sports the Cupra logo while dedicated instruments and leather sports seats with yellow highlights match the bright exterior.
The 5-inch entertainment system screen is removable with functions like navigation system, the hands-free phone system with voice control and an on-board computer. This portable system will be available in the future for the entire Ibiza family.
Our thoughts? Well the Seat Ibiza Cubra is a looker and fits well in the Volkswagen family with the LED headlights and striking styling. Looks aside, performance and costs are also factors to consider if the car enters production, and gets a local launch.
Seat presented the Ibiza Cupra Concept during the Beijing motor show. The hot-hatch concept looks close-to-production with production models expected to arrive towards the end of the year.
