On 14 January 2025, Senior Minister of State for Transport, Dr Amy Khor, announced the locations of 10 new Friendly Streets sites islandwide. These sites will be located in residential areas with high pedestrian activity and close to key amenities such as hawkers, schools, and MRT stations.
Friendly Streets are designed to make walking and cycling commutes within neighbourhood centres easier and safer, especially for seniors and young children. In partnership with the local communities, the locations and features were finalised after consultation with stakeholders and residents.
The 10 Friendly Streets can be found in Bedok, Buangkok, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Holland/Buona Vista, Jurong East, Pek Kio, Punggol, Sembawang, and Tiong Bahru. Further information on these locations can be found on the LTA website, with construction works set to progressively commence from the first half of 2025 and to be completed in 2026.
When completed, residents can look forward to more barrier-free crossings, traffic-calming features such as road humps, green road markings to encourage drivers to slow down before these crossings, and pedestrian-friendly zones marked with the signature Friendly Streets icon. So far, four Friendly Streets pilots have been completed with positive responses from residents.
