Skoda celebrates world premiere of the Scala

By launching the Scala, Skoda is taking several steps in development at once and is completely repositioning itself in the compact car segment.
The Scala is the first Skoda to implement the next development stage of the brand's design language and is doing so in a very emotive and authentic way. It is the first Skoda production vehicle in Europe to bear 'Skoda' in block lettering across its tailgate instead of the Skoda logo.
Alloy wheels measuring up to 18 inches create dynamic accents; the unique, extended rear window available in the Emotion package gives the Scala its own style.
The new interior is based on the Vision RS concept study. Just like the front door trims, the instrument panel with its central touch screen positioned high on the dashboard also features a high-quality, soft-foam surface with a new specific texture resembling crystalline structures. A pleasant atmosphere is created by the ambient lighting with warm hues and contrasting coloured stitching on the seat covers.
1.0-litre or 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines and a 1.6-litre TDI will be available and will produce power outputs ranging from 93bhp to 145bhp. The top-of-the-range 1.5 TSI has Active Cylinder Technology, which shuts down the two middle cylinders when engine load is low, reducing fuel consumption.
The new Scala is the first Skoda based on Volkswagen Group's state-of-the-art MQB A0 platform. Skoda has made comprehensive adjustments to the platform for the new Scala, which include using the longest possible wheelbase and rear overhang. The result is a typical Skoda - extremely spacious combined with compact external dimensions.
