Subaru unveils futuristic WRX concept in New York

Apparently the leaks were true, and this is indeed the Subaru WRX Concept that was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. The futuristic design concept (which has hints of Jaguar and the Mercedes) departs from traditional Subaru styling we are accustomed to for a more European flair, and hints at the future styling of the next generation WRX.

The concept is lower, sleeker and wider, and delivers more street presence than its predecessors. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler while the air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.
At the rear end, you will find a dramatically curved trunk lid that also acts as a rear spoiler. The distinctive wide rear bumper adds to the powerful street presence of the car only to be disrupted by large quad tailpipes while the rear diffuser improves vehicles aerodynamics.
The concept is finished in a new, 'WR Blue Pearl III', colour which modernises the iconic WRX look. Fluorescent Yellow is used as an accent on the WRX badge on the front grille, the brake callipers and the exhaust tip finishers - adding character notes to the design.
The WRX Concept measures 4,521mm long, sits 1,900mm wide and stands 1,389mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,761mm.

The bold and muscular design emphasises on the turbocharged power and AWD grip in a more agile and athletic form. The concept blends power and road-holding prowess with an even greater focus on sharp handling, steering and communicative chassis. The carbon fibre roof enhances the low centre of gravity and reduces weight on top of offering improved handling capabilities.
