GMC has introduced the 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1, a first-of-its kind supertruck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions and at the same time resurrecting a legendary name that was previously discontinued.
It will be the first fully electric addition to GMC's lineup, driven by next-generation EV propulsion technology that enables unprecedented off-road capability, extraordinary on-road performance and an immersive driving experience designed to put occupants at the centre of every moment.
The Hummer EV will get its energy from General Motors' (GM) all new Ultium batteries and power from Ultium Drive, GM's proprietary EV drive units. These electric motors generate an estimated 986bhp and 15,592Nm of torque, which is the best rating in its class.
Three separate motors within two Ultium drive units give the Hummer EV remarkable on-road and off-road capabilities. Additional purposeful and intuitive technologies will complement the truck's range and capabilities to enhance and elevate every excursion.
The Hummer EV comes with unique features like four wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, 35-inch off-road tyres with the capability to fit up to 37-inch tyres, being able to traverse through water up to 60cm deep, and in-built cameras to allow for better visuals of blind spots while tackling off-road trails.
Additionally, the Hummer EV is also capable of 800-volt DC public fast charging compatibility of up to 350kW, and comes with a 24-module double-stacked Ultium battery propulsion system that offers excellent range and power to three motors, giving an estimated range of 563km on a full charge.
The Hummer EV's design cues will be bold and futuristic, featuring carefully executed details such as the distinctive 'H' motif seen in a number of elements.
The reimagining of conventional displays communicates the vehicle's capability and technology via exterior lighting and interior user interfaces. This is best seen on the large, 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch driver information center display, both of which convey a wealth of vehicle performance and driver awareness information.
The Hummer EV will begin production in late 2021 at GM's Factory ZERO in Detroit - a nearly 40-year old facility repurposed and retooled with a $2.98 billion investment devoted to electric vehicle production.
