Skoda Singapore has officially introduced the brand new fourth generation Octavia in Singapore, which is now also offered in the Combi bodystyle.
The fourth generation Octavia brings extensive changes to the model. The model is now longer and wider than before, while also boasting increased boot space. The sedan's massive 600-litre boot is 10 litres larger than before, while the Combi's 640-litre boot is a 30-litre increase from before. Both models feature an electric tailgate to offer even greater convenience.
Visually, the Octavia boasts Skoda's new design language. The front features narrower LED head lights and a lower set front grille, while the side features the brand's iconic Tornado line that lends the car a sense of motion and dynamism.
The rear features LED taillights, as well as the Skoda brand name spelt out across the rear of the car. Overall, the simpler design is focused on improving the car's aerodynamic efficiency.
The new generation Octavia also comes laden with new interior equipment.
Standard across the range is the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit, as well as a new multifunction two-spoke steering wheel that can operate 14 different functions without taking your hands off the wheel. There is also a new centre console with a minimalist design, as well as a newly designed gear shifter that uses shift-by-wire technology to operate the seven-speed DSG. Also, an electronic parking brake with auto hold is now available.
The Ambition trim features an 8.0-inch Swing infotainment system with SmartLink technology. The higher Style trim gets a 10-inch Bolero infotainment system that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, giving you convenient access to functions like navigation and Spotify.
Of course, the Octavia also features plenty of clever storage solutions and convenience features. There are umbrella compartments on the front doors, the new KESSY keyless vehicles entry system, wireless smartphone charging to go with two USB-C ports, as well as the mechanical rear seat release located in the boot compartment to conveniently fold down the rear seats.
Powering the new Octavia is a 148bhp 1.5-litre TSI engine that marks the debut of e-TEC mild hybrid technology. The 48V system recovers brake energy, allows the engine to switch off while coasting, and assists in the engine start/stop function. The new mild-hybrid powertrain offers a 10% reduction in fuel consumption.
The Octavia also comes equipped with extensive safety and driving assistance systems. Side Assist, Lane Assist and Exit Warning come standard on the Octavia Style and Combi, while the Combi also gets Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Assist with City Emergency Brake.
At launch, the new Octavia is offered in two trim levels (Ambition and Style), while the Combi is offered in Style trim only. According to Skoda Singapore, the brand is looking into additional future possibilities as far as other powertain offerings. Fans of the high-performance RS model will be keen to know that it is expected to be launched before the end of this year.
