Upgrading plans for Seletar Airport
24 Nov 2014|4,147 views
As part of a bigger plan to boost the efficiency of Changi Airport, Seletar Airport will be demolished and rebuilt to expand its operations. Currently, Seletar Airport handles mainly private and pilot training flights.
The upgrade is scheduled to start next year and will see the new Seletar Airport equipped to handle more traffic, thereby allowing Changi Airport to make better use of its runways.
While smaller planes make up a small proportion of the total number of flights at Changi Airport, they require larger air space due to safety reasons. This is because smaller planes are more affected by air turbulence created by bigger planes.
Though the location of the new airport terminal has yet to be finalised, The Straits Times understands that it will be situated within the Seletar Aerospace Park. A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has also confirmed with the local papers that plans for the upgrade are being finalised.
