Valkyrie Racing fits its Porsche 356 with skis and tracks

Racer and philanthropist Renee Brinkerhoff and Valkyrie Racing have fitted their Porsche 356A with skis to traverse Antarctica.

Valkyrie Racing's classic vehicle mascot has spent the last 18 months being re-engineered to ensure it is both safe and carbon positive to complete the long-awaited adventure.

The use of a ski and track system was necessary and has ensure that the footprint (mass per square inch) of the vehicle has been reduced to less than 4% of the standard displacement of the car on wheels, necessary when you're traversing through ice and snow.

Beyond the fitment of skis, the Porsche 356 also gets a crevasse bar that supports a dual-sided solar panel (reflecting both sun and snow), a roll cage, a four-ton bag jack to lift vehicle in soft snow, a rear engine frame winch point, a temperature gauge for early gearbox overheat detection, as well as the addition of a rear window exit in case of emergencies.

The expedition is being carried out as part of a mission to end global child trafficking.
