Volvo Cars has launched the new Volvo S60 and V60 in Singapore at Millenia Walk.
Guests at the event were treated to a speech by Mr. Jonathan Disley, Vice President of Design - Region Asia Pacific, wherein he outlined the inspiration as well as the design story and process behind getting the two models to market.
Many changes were made in getting the wanted designs to the showroom, from the redesigned rear door hinges to the small changes in the design of the front grille. This creates a more compact and sporty shape when viewed next to its S90 bigger brother. The designers of the S60 and V60 were proud to bring a product that very much mirrored their original sketches and concepts to market.
The Volvo S60 is the first Volvo car made in the U.S.A and produced at Volvo Cars' brand new manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina. Built on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture platform, it features all the now classic Volvo styling cues, including the T-shaped 'Thor's Hammer' LED head light design, distinctive waterfall grille with Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.
On the inside, a central metallic accent envelops the 2.3-inch adaptive driver display, 9.0-inch iPad-style infotainment touch screen, and the sleek air-blade vents with knurled jewel knobs.
The new Volvo S60 is also the most spacious sedan in its class, thanks to a 100mm increase in wheel base, translating to 240% more knee clearance for rear passengers.
The S60 will be available in two 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol options - T5 and T4 - both of which are paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, providing an outstanding combination of performance and fuel efficiency. The T5 engine delivers 250bhp and 350Nm of torque, while the T4 engine delivers 187bhp and 300Nm of torque.
A plug-in hybrid option will also be available on the S60 from the first quarter of 2020, with a revolutionary 2.0-litre T8 Twin Engine with AWD that delivers 400bhp.
The new V60, meanwhile, celebrates Volvo's legacy of building quality estates. It retains the vertical taillight design of older Volvos and pairs it with a class-leading load compartment capacity of 529 litres, which further expands to 1,441 litres with the seats folded.
The V60 will be offered here with the same two 2.0-litre engine options as the S60.
As is typical of Volvo, both cars come with a suite of comfort and safety enhancing technologies. Volvo's CleanZone air purification system, for example, has been further improved by adding a new carbon filter for more efficient capture of small, harmful particles and pollen in the incoming air.
Both cars also feature Oncoming Collision Mitigation by Braking, Run-off Road Protection, and City Safety with Full Auto Brake, and Pedestrian, Cyclist and Large Animal Detection as world-firsts for Volvo.
